Anyone familiar with the printing industry knows that KBA is the first manufacturer of printing presses in the world and from that moment on their technology never seized improving. It all started when in the early 19th century, the founder, Mr. Friedrich Koenig, had an ingenious idea to guide a paper tape over a rotating cylinder.
In 1814, The Times, in London becomes the first newspaper ever printed by a double cylinder press machine- Koenig. In 1817 Koenig & Bauer set the foundations of their factory in Oberzell, near Würzburg and the rest is only history.

KBA became the market leader for: large format printing presses, printing presses for banknotes and presses for metal and a top manufacturer of newspaper printing presses, sheet-fed offset and rotary heat set.
KBA has not stood aside from direct imaging technologies, the German manufacturer launched in late 90s and beginning of the new millennium its own systems such as the Karat 74, a machine that, unlike the competitor Heidelberg, is able to print in format 50 x 70 cm and uses aluminum plates.
KBA also launched in the recent years the KBA-Metronic Genius 52 UV, another system based on direct imaging technology, perfectly adapted for printing substrates “inaccessible” for traditional offset technology, such as plastics.
Now, most of the major international manufacturers of offset printing equipment, and even some from the digital equipment area, have launched their own machines based on dry offset technology and printing preparation by direct imaging.

KBA continued the campaign to conquer the 1st position as a top manufacturer in offset printing equipment, in 2012. Moreover, Koenig & Bauer has assumed the global leadership in the segment – offset printing equipment for packaging.
KBA fulfilled the promise to this industry by presenting its own brand of digital printing equipment, manufactured exclusively in Germany in collaboration with the American RR Donnelley, the inkjet rotary- RotaJET 76 which is a real attraction. Another KBA machines’ best is also the rotary with variable format Varius 80, developed for flexible packaging production segment.
The sheet-fed offset, the area in which KBA wants to become the leading leader has benefited from the contribution of the most powerful presses in their portfolio at that moment, which apparently seemed to be very successful, according to printing demonstrations.
Among these the new Rapida 145 press is worth mentioned, which, KBA considered to be the strongest offset sheet-fed machine in 2012 and the “world champion in preparation for printing” Rapida 106. Regarding the 50×70 cm format, KBA came up with Rapida 76. However, according to the German manufacturer, the one registering most sales among flat offsets was, Rapida 105.
Nevertheless, KBA machines are synonymous with the word quality and having that in mind there is no doubt that both new models as well as the already existing models, do the best job in any printing area.
So, if you have cost effectiveness in mind when investing in printing machines, older models should be able to suit your needs just fine. Where to find them? It has never been easier with Usedpresses.org.
